Design a mug for the Diamond Jubilee
Your homework for the week is to design a mug for the Diamond Jubilee.
As part of the celebrations you have the opportunity to have your own design printed onto a mug which you can buy for all your friends and relatives.
Your design needs to reflect Britain and the Queens Diamond Jubilee, it may include the date and possibly have a small link to the Olympics as well- the focus is the Queens Jubilee. There must be no official logos or slogans on your design or the mug company will not be allowed to print them, you need to be mindful of this if you are making any links with the Olympics.
Your design needs to be done on the template which you will bring home on Tuesday; on the back of this is the order form. The design and your order with payment should be returned to school by Friday 30th March
Artwork Guidelines.
• Artworks must be completed on the template provided
• Artworks must be landscape
• Everything visible on the artwork will be printed. To avoid losing any of your design allow a small border of 2 mm around the edge.
• Do not add your name to the design unless it is actually part of the design!
• Bright bold colours work best in felt pen, crayon, pencil crayon or paint.
• Do not use fluorescent highlighter colours or pearlised gel pens.
• Do not use glitter as this will ruin the machinery to scan your design.
• Please ensure that the arrow on the reverse of the design points to the top of the design. The design will be printed in this way up.
Use Monday night to research or plan your design, it must be no bigger than 29.7cm by 12.9cm in size. Draw it out on a rough piece of paper.
On Tuesday we will send home the official templates for you to begin your masterpiece in neat. These will come with instructions for the ordering and payment.

Last week of term already!
A brief update on life at Crabtree. Thank you to all of you who came to support the children in their brilliant performance in the gym display. The upper school really did themselves (and their teachers) very proud indeed. What talent we have at Crabtree!
Some of you may also know that Junior Apprentice had to be postponed as not enough children had brought the necessary equipment (too much going on at the moment! :) ) so rather than rush a brilliant day, we thought it best to make the most of it the following Monday instead.
Below are some pictures of both Elm and Elder's art work. The children really enjoyed having a go at presenting their artistic skills on canvas.
Have a great weekend otherwise. The Daily Prophet is due in on Monday as usual along with preparations for Eisteddfod. What a term we've had!

And another week gone
Dear Parents and Year 6 children,
We have had such a busy week at Crabtree! From finishing (or starting) our art work on canvas (more pictures will be uploaded soon) to practising for our Gym display next week, the children have hardly had a minute to breathe!
As you know, Monday is our Junior Apprentice Day where the children will be making their own board games based on the Harry Potter series; a bit of a grand finale to this term's brilliant topic. Some children (50% from each class) have been bringing some resources/materials and equipment we may need for Monday's exciting activity, however we would appreciate it if more children could try to gather unused buttons, bottle tops, ribbons as we seem to have a lot of cardboard, but little of anything else. The Year 6 team really appreciates your support. We understand that it can be hard to find DT materials at home, but because we have planned so many cross-curricular activities this term (which has really engaged the children in their learning), the school has not been able to supply all materials needed. We appreciate your understanding.
Finally, as published on the learning platform, we are also expecting the children to bring in their Geography project by Monday. Some children from both Elm and Elder have said that they are unable to print their work at home. If so you can also upload your work on the learning platform:

Browse your own files on your computer to locate the file you wish to upload, and then click to choose and upload it to the learning platform. It will be added to your list of files.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on upload. This should save your file to the learning platform.

Indoor Athletics 2012
A HUGE congratulations to the indoor athletics team for a brilliant performance yesterday afternoon. Just look at the amazing trophies that were brought back to school (with only Crabtree engraved on them for the past 3 years!)

A little update...
Dear Parents,
Below are some pictures taken of Elm's recent visit at St George's. The children (and the grown ups!) had a fab time investigating reversible and irreversible changes. Now we know how Harry Potter and his wizarding friends manage to make fire appear and disappear. Do not worry, the techniques shown involved apparatus and materials you don't have at home... Elder will be going to St George on the 22nd of March.
Since our last update we have been working very hard in all areas of the curriculum. The children have completed their Quest stories, produced some amazing leaflets to Harry Potter world, Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade and Hogwarts.We have been equally busy in Maths revising and introducing new concepts such as ratio, proportion and probability. Yesterday, children in Miss Renier's Maths group learnt how to add and subtract negative numbers. Interesing the examples we came up with when talking about double negatives. They may well have learnt now how to get you to agree to something without you realising it...watch out! :)
In ICT, we are still preparing the children and developing their spreadsheet skills as next week they will be working on their 3rd Triwizard task consisting in planning and budgeting for a Hogwarts House Banquet.
Another exciting project we are working on at the moment is our Art Triwizard task which consists of representing movement in a Quidditch game using techniques by famous artists such as Marcel Duchamps and Robert Delaunay. Elder has planned their work and Elm has started to paint on canvas this afternoon. It may require another few patient sessions, but the Year 6 team can't wait to see the finished masterpieces from both classes.
Finally, we will be preparing ourselves next week for our Junior Apprentice day taking place on Monday 19th March. Both classes will be planning their task on the previous Thursday and will be making a list of equipment which they will need to bring to school. This may include cardboard/cereal boxes, ribbons, fabric, buttons, bottle tops. To give you an idea, the task set by Alan Sugar is for each House group to produce their own boardgame based on the Harry Potter series. They will have to work on concepts such as costing, marketing and profit. The group who makes the most popular game wins!
Maths Homework was set on Tuesday and was due in today and the weekly Daily Prophet entry will be due in on Friday along with new spellings.
